The Inspiration for Mamacita
Mamacita began as a way for Andrea Pons to immortalize the recipes she grew up eating and to reconnect with her Mexican heritage. But when Pons and her family faced the imminent possibility of deportation after calling the United States home for over 16 years, she looked to the recipes for help.
To fund her family’s significant legal fees, Pons sold self-published copies of Mamacita, and the cookbook became both a symbol of her family’s journey and a rallying cry for keeping her family together.
Mamacita is named for her father’s nickname for her mother.
